Center for Tourism
The Center for Tourism, Leisure and Social Development Research of Sun Yat-sen University was established in June 2013 and was approved as a social science research base in Guangdong Province in December 2020. Relying on the School of Tourism at Sun Yat-sen University, the center invites well-known scholars from both domestic and overseas to serve as members of its academic committee, forming an interdisciplinary academic research team. It has achieved abundant results in the fields of tourism's socio-cultural impact, tourism anthropology and sociology, tourism social space, tourism mobility, rural tourism and rural revitalization, promoting theoretical research on tourism, leisure, and social development, and expanding the social application of research findings.
The center focuses on areas such as "integrated development of culture and tourism", "tourism-based poverty alleviation and rural revitalization", and "tourism development in the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area". By integrating advantageous resources from distinctive disciplines such as tourism and leisure, economics, management, anthropology, and geography, it establishes a professional innovation team that combines theory with practice, continuously promoting the development of tourism and leisure disciplines. The main work includes: regularly holding forums, academic salons, and other forms of academic activities on tourism, leisure, and social development; team members operate the "Yixian Tourism Research" media platform to publish the latest research progress; and complete research reports or decision-making reference opinions related to tourism, leisure, and social development.
