Call for Applications: The 2nd International Summer School on Cultural Heritage Tourism and Communication

Background

As UNESCO identified, heritage revitalizationis a key path for sustainable development under global civilization exchange and collaboration. To enhance cross-cultural exchange for cross-cultural heritage learning and practice, the School of Tourism Management at Sun Yat-sen University will host the 2nd International Summer School on Cultural Heritage Tourism and Communication from July 13 to July 26, 2026.

This summer school focuses on heritage tourism, conservation, revitalization, and communication. Leveraging the rich heritage resources of theGuangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area (GBA) and the Chaozhou-Shantou region(also known as Swatowand Teochew), thesummer school provides a platform for youth participation.Through academic lectures, practical training, workshops, and seminars,it aims to stimulate academic innovation, foster insights, and strengthen practical skills.

Eligibility

The summer school is open to postgraduate students and senior undergraduate students (enrolled in 2024 or earlier) from diverse fields, includingbut not limited to heritagestudies, tourism management, event management, cultural industry management, cultural creativity, communication, and design. To ensure the best learning efficacy, the program plans to enroll 30 students. The final enrollment may be adjusted based on applications, and admission will be merit-based.

The program is structured with lectures, workshops, seminars, and heritage site fieldwork.

(2) Proof of identity (scanned copy of passport photo page);

(3) Scanned copy of student ID(both sides);

(4) Scanned copy of academic transcript;

(5) Proof of language proficiency (scanned copies of CET-4/6, TOEFL, GRE, IELTS, etc. for Chinese students; HSK certificate for international students);

(6) Representative achievements are strongly recommended, including but not limited to academic papers, original work, or award certificates. If the work is a team effort, please provide a separate document explaining your specific contribution.

Other Matters

The program fee is 3000 RMB per person. This fee is waived for international students, excluding those currently enrolled in universities in the Chinese mainland. The fee covers accommodation, chartered transportation, meals, entrance tickets to heritage sites, and the certificate fee during the program. Travel expenses to and from the program, personal accident insurance, and expenses outside the program schedule are the responsibility of the participants.

The list of admitted students will be announced before June 5, 2026, in the Notices section of the School of Tourism Management website (https://stm.sysu.edu.cn/). Unsuccessful applicants will not be notified individually. Admitted students must pay the fee within the specified time according to the website instructions.

Students must comply with the organizational regulations of Sun Yat-sen University during the program.

Students who complete the entire program will receive a certificate of completion.
